Robyn Rihanna Fenty, more popularly known by her stage name Rihanna, is not just a musical genius but has also proven herself a force to be reckoned within the beauty industry. We saw her make a name for herself with earlier releases like Unfaithful and Umbrella. Now, she has conquered the hearts of the public with her latest beauty bran, Fenty Beauty.

When the preview for Fenty was dropped earlier this season, it went viral on social media. Reddit was flooded with potential consumers and beauty gurus gushing over the gorgeousness on display. There were beautiful models dolled up with Fenty beauty products looking like goddesses. The last frame was of Rihanna herself flaunting her natural beauty. Being a colored woman, she seems to be keenly aware of the needs of colored women across the globe. Viewers were stunned at the level of diversity shown in the Fenty Beauty preview.

The main selling point of Fenty beauty is inclusion as Rihanna herself mentioned. For decades, there has been a severe lack of inclusion in consumer beauty brands. As far as professional makeup artist brands are concerned, they cater to every race and complexion. However, consumer brands don’t share the same philosophy as professional makeup artist brands. The latter has products developed for professionals who are familiar with color theory and understand how to make adjustments for various skin types and complexions. Consumer brands on the other hand are all about making a quick buck. The formulas are heavily dependent on the amount of money invested in them. This is why you’ll often see the same makeup brand coming out with products of different price ranges. The cheaper options will undoubtedly not perform as well as their pricier counterparts. Besides quality, color range for complexion products is a sore point for consumers. Matching of foundation and concealer shades, in particular, is extremely difficult in consumer brands. Depth of color is not the only issue in the complexion products offered by consumer brands. The concept of undertones is largely ignored by the developers of these beauty lines.

This is why Rihanna has been very smart in filling the market gap by introducing Fenty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 40 shades ranging from pale porcelain to rich chocolate colors. When Fenty Beauty was officially launched in stores on 8th September, 2017 the response of the customers was overwhelming. Excited buyers waited in line at Sephora to be color matched for the hyped up foundation which many claimed was a game changer for oily skin. The foundation was supposed to be buildable with a medium to full coverage. However, many users are unimpressed with the coverage. Those used to full coverage flawless makeup are saying that this foundation does not cover heavily pigmented areas. Another common complaint is that the foundation changes color within 2-3 minutes as it settles into the skin. This has sparked a debate between makeup artists and beauty enthusiasts who are not sure whether this count as oxidation or not since the foundation becomes two shades darker once it fully dries. The formula is reported to be runny which might not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, those with oily skin have been wowed by its performance though they have warned others of the formula clinging to dry patches. Will this new offering from Fenty prove to be a boon for oily skinned ladies around the globe?

The Killawatt powder highlighter from Fenty Beauty was the most hyped up project leading to the brands launch. Post-launch, it has received mixed reviews. It was obvious from the pan that the shade was extremely yellow which would not blend with any skin tone ever. It’s just one of those trendy highlighters that brands use to attract consumers. There is also Match Stix in different colors which may be used as eye shadows, blushes or highlighters. There is a small range of colors from cool to warm which you may see on the models displayed on their website. There are also some conceal and contour in the Match Stix packaging. Gloss Bomb claims to be a universal lip luminizer that adds a glamorous touch to your look. To top it off, you can check out the cute brushes and tools available from Fenty Beauty.
