How to Treat Knee Pain at Home

Knee pain treatment is possible through remedies at home.

If you suffer on and off from knee pain it is best to consult your doctor to figure out the underlying cause of this symptom. It could be an indication of something serious so never ignore knee pain. It’s not that difficult to manage knee pain but you need to understand a few things about how your body works.

Resting

This may seem obvious but it’s really important. Your muscle needs to heal and if you keep moving it about you could slow down this process. Also, if you make a wrong move you could damage your knee further. Avoid any sudden movements and postures that could cause cramps.

Exercising

Exercising your hurt knee is just as important as letting it rest. As you know, you muscles become weak the less you use them. You might have a hard time settling into your previous routine if you haven’t exercised your knee. Follow the instructions of your physiotherapist.

Ice therapy

Using an ice pack or a bag of frozen peas is the easy way to reduce inflammation in your knee. Swelling may restrict mobility and increase pain. Remember not to hold the ice pack on your knee for more than a few minutes at a time.

Heat therapy

It is not advised to apply heat to your knee right after the injury because your knee would be swollen at that point. It is recommended to wait 24-48 hours after your injury so that the swelling has gone down. Then you may relax with heat therapy.

Elevation

Keep your knee elevated about your heart. This is also related to swelling because in a normal position, the blood flow to your knee would be greater increasing inflammation. Don’t put any weight on your knee to prevent further damage.

Massage

There’s nothing better than a massage to improve blood circulation around your knee and speed up healing. This must not be done while your knee is till swollen. Even later, you must be very careful not to apply too much pressure.

These simple steps may be used together to manage knee pain at home.
